Carpenter Ants

Ant Description

Black carpenter ants can be entirely black, a combination of red and black, or completely red or brown. Workers range from 1/8″ to 5/8″ and the queens are about 1/2″ to 5/8″ in length.

Ant Location

Carpenter ants are attracted to moist, damp areas and build their nests in rotten or decayed wood but the ants may eventually branch out in to sound wood. They may reside both indoor and outdoors usually in decaying or hollow wood.

Ant Dangers

The dangers from carpenter ants lie in their ability to destroy wooden structures. Even though they do not eat the wood, they do cut galleries into the wood to build their nests and discard the wood in the form of sawdust. When a colony of ants gets established in your home, the damage may not be apparent until they bore through the wall in the form of little openings. This is precisely why you should look into premium pest control companies in Latrobe, PA to ensure that your home or business is ant-free.
